Confessions and Comparisons

I have a confession to make.

I am not a prolific crafter. I knit slowly, I sew slowly, I have too many WISPs. When I compare myself to other people on the 'net, they are all finishing stuff far faster then I do.

It's not even as if I have numerous commitments: other prolific crafters have far more the I do.

That's why I've been a bit quiet recently.

But comparisons are pointless, aren't they?

I haven't posted about all my successes, like the marks I got in my Latin TMAs - the first two were so high that I have passed the coursework component even before I submit the last two TMAs.

I haven't boasted about DH, or Kiddo's SATS results. I haven't talked much about the KS2 Ancient Greek maths sessions I've run.

So what if someone makes three quilts in a week, or churns out jumpers at a rate of knots! Let them be prolific, and I'll draw circles and knit direct from the hank. If I'm enjoying what I do, does it matter how long it takes? They might be about to spin a fleece fast, but I can say "I sheared a sheep today" in Latin.

However, in the light of this post, just why did I start knitting a laceweight scarf at the knitting group tonight?

WISP == Work in Slow Progress
hodie ouem totondi == "I sheared a sheep today"

Great news on the Latin. I'm with you. I'd like to know if these crafters have a life. A quilt a week at least? I'm lucky to get a few blocks done or stitches taken. I have always been slow and my mom pointed it out years ago. However, I am meticulous at times too and so that's what takes time.
Enjoy what you do and let the others hurry. Wasn't there a fable about a tortoise and a hare?

But the fable was Greek...

Penny, nice post. I like this a lot.

I remember a classmate being so chuffed when he figured out how to say "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" in Latin...he peppered his conversation with it for ages. "leones, tigresque, ursaeque, eheu!" was his phrase. Correct - dunno. Funny - certainly.

I prefer "hodie ouem totondi"...thanks for that.

My production rate is incredibly slow and my blogging of it even slower.

I am in awe of the other successes in your life though. They really are something to be proud of.

I am sure there must be an appropriate piece of Latin to say "enjoy process not product"... but my Higher Latin was a long long time ago!

Hahaha! I love this post and I hope it cheered you up when listing all your accomplishments?!
Like you I have far too many WISP's that should keep me going until mid-century. But hey, I have cleaned so many toilets, floors and fridges lately, as well as making lots and lots of beds - that's what I've been up to!
